City of Asheboro Holiday Blood Drive

COVID-19 Information

On September 4, 2020 the Governor issued Executive Order 163, placing North Carolina into “Safer at Home Phase 2.5”. This Executive Order remains in effect through October 2, 2020 unless repealed, replaced, or rescinded by another applicable Executive Order.  As a result of this Executive Order, the updated facility and services listing for the Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services Department is listed below. When using our facilities, please remember to practice safe social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and wear a face covering when appropriate.

Update 9.4.2020  


Facilities – closed through at least October 2:

·         The Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services administration office (241 Sunset Avenue) will operate with restricted access.

·         The Sunset Theatre remains closed for all programs and rentals until further notice.

·         Bicentennial Park will not be allowed to host any special events, fairs, or festivals due to the prohibition on Mass Gatherings as stated in the Executive Order. 

·         Existing facility rentals at either Bicentennial Park or the Sunset Theatre are cancelled through at least October 2. Refunds will be issued to all cancelled events.


Programs – cancelled, postponed or restrictions:

·         The Randolph County Senior Games and all associated events and practices have been cancelled. Refunds have been issued.

·         Special Populations programs, including the Randolph County Special Olympics Spring Games have been cancelled.

·         All city organized youth and adult athletic program practices, meetings, and games are suspended until further notice.

·         The 2020 fall Youth Football League has been cancelled. Refunds or account credits have been issued.


Open Facilities – please note some operational changes:

·         Asheboro Municipal Golf Course

o   Will operate daily, weather permitting, from 7:30am – 7:30pm.

o   Pro shop will be closed to the public with the exception of the restroom facilities.

o   Cart rentals will be limited to one golfer per cart. Two persons from the same household may ride together on the same cart.

o   Carts will be sanitized between golfers.

o   Bunker rakes have been removed. Please smooth sand with your foot.

o   Leave the flag stick in the hole at all times. The cups have been modified to allow for ball removal from the cup without having to touch the flag stick or the cup.  


·         Athletic Fields

o   Are open with the limitations of state mandated mass gathering limits and social distancing requirements.

o   Please contact our Sports Program Supervisor at 336-626-1240 ext. 9 for additional questions / restrictions.


·         Lake Lucas and Lake Reese Recreational Areas

o   Will operate under normal hours of operation.

o   Private boat launching and bank fishing are permitted as long as social distancing requirements are followed.

o   Lake offices will be closed to the public.

o   All canoe, Jon-boat, and kayak rentals at Lake Lucas are suspended during Phase 2.5.


·         Parks, Playgrounds and Trails

o   Residents may engage in outdoor activities at City park facilities and trails as long as residents comply with state mandated social distancing requirements and mass gathering limits.

o   Playgrounds will open on Friday, September 4.

o   Picnic shelters will be available to rent beginning September 14. Groups will be limited to 50 per shelter, regardless of the size shelter.

o   Facilities encompassed in this section include Bicentennial Park, the W.W. Thomas Tennis Center, and all of the various neighborhood parks.




·         Recreation Center

o   Programming will resume at the Recreation Center on a limited basis beginning September 14. 

o   Preregistration will be required for most programs, as well as following the safety precautions outlined in Executive Order No. 163.

·         Skate Park

o   Beginning September 14 the Skate Park will resume normal hours of operation.

§ Monday – Friday         4pm – 7pm

§ Saturday                      10am – 7pm

§ Sunday                         1pm – 7pm

§ Closed during inclement weather and on announced City Holidays.


·         Swimming Pools

o   Memorial and North Asheboro Pools are open for limited pool activities.

o   Activities will be limited to lap swimming, one-on-one swim lessons, and water fitness classes in order to maintain social distancing requirements.

o   Pre-registration for each activity will be required in order to control the Maximum Emergency Occupancy number.
