City Council Endorses Sponsorship Program for the David & Pauline Jarrell Center City Garden
Community sponsorship opportunities now available for individuals in the community to participate in garden legacy
ASHEBORO, N.C., Aug. 28, 2026 – The Asheboro City Council has endorsed the David & Pauline Jarrell Center City Garden Sponsorship Guide for Fiscal Year 2026–2027, opening an opportunity for businesses, organizations, families, and individuals to help support one of Asheboro’s newest signature public spaces.
The sponsorship guide provides opportunities for the community to invest in individual garden amenities while helping ensure the garden remains a beautiful, welcoming, and sustainable public gathering place for generations to come. The garden was made possible in large part through the vision and generosity of former Mayor David Jarrell and his wife, Pauline, who donated much of the land, enabling the City of Asheboro to preserve it as a public garden.
With the garden's opening on the horizon, now is a great time for the community to be a part of the excitement. Businesses, civic organizations, families, foundations, and individuals are invited to consider sponsoring an amenity and becoming part of the garden's story. Whether supporting a place to sit and enjoy the surroundings or sponsoring the many educational displays, each sponsorship represents an investment in what is to be an enduring asset for Asheboro. Sponsorship opportunities range from supporting major garden amenities to smaller contributions to allow participation at different levels.
Construction Progress
Construction of the David & Pauline Jarrell Center City Garden is moving forward, with J&K General Contractors having completed much of the project’s site preparations and underground infrastructure work. The garden soon will take shape as major above-ground elements are constructed.
Over the next few months, the construction team will complete a pergola, boardwalk, seating wall, fountain installation, and fencing, along with other site improvements such as plantings and lighting.
The garden is expected to open to the public later this fall, providing residents and visitors with a new place to gather, explore nature, enjoy gardens, and experience a unique public space one block from the Central Business District.
Project Funding
In addition to the land generously gifted by David and Pauline Jarrell for the garden, community donations helped to fund the purchase of additional land for the visitor parking lot and a possible future welcome center. Funding for construction was made possible through a combination of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and investment by the City of Asheboro.

The community sponsorship program provides an opportunity for businesses, organizations, families, foundations, and individuals to help support specific garden amenities and ongoing maintenance, enhancement, and stewardship. Those interested in sponsorship may review the David & Pauline Jarrell Center City Garden Sponsorship Guide and complete the Sponsorship Commitment Form. Sponsorships are subject to approval by the City of Asheboro, and recognition is installed following execution of a sponsorship agreement and receipt of payment.
